Reiss Beckford

Aiming to be the first Olympic #JAMnast

30 November 2015History in the Making for Reiss

Reiss, who competed for Jamaica at the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Glasgow, Scotland, is campaigning for support of his attempt to become the first Jamaican gymnast to compete in the Olympics Games.

Reiss visited with the Jamaican high Commission in London as part of this campaign.

Reiss provided Deidre Mills, Deputy High Commissioner, with updates on his fundraising activities and preparations for the competition. Mills congratulated the gymnast on the progress he has made so far.

Reiss, 23, was born in Britain but decided to compete for Jamaica early in 2015. He has made visits to Trinidad and Tobago, competing for a place on Jamaica’s team; he won a gold medal in the individual all-round competition there. He has previously won medals at the 2010 Commonwealth Games and the European and World Cup competitions.

Reiss has a crowdfunding effort underway to help him raise the £5,000 he needs to compete in Rio in 2016 as the first Jamaican Gymnast.
